About this tour

Haunted Jails, Rails & Grave Tales is a roughly 2-hour outdoor walking tour of Phoenix's Warehouse District covering the Sheriff's Office, the Ice House, Phoenix Union Train Station, the Fourth Avenue Jail, the former Madison Street Jail, the Old County Courthouse, the Luhrs Building and the MCSO MASH Unit, places tied to crime, incarceration, rail history and reported hauntings. Every stop is outdoors and guests take part in two hands-on outdoor ghost hunts with real equipment. It runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8:15 PM and is fully wheelchair accessible; there is no restroom access until the tour ends.

  1. Sheriff's Office

    Begin outside the Sheriff's Office and uncover the darker side of law enforcement in old Phoenix.

  2. Fourth Avenue Jail

    Uncover the stories tied to one of Phoenix's most notorious jails and conduct a second outdoor ghost hunt.

  3. Former Madison Street Jail

    Learn about the former jail and the people once held behind its walls.

  4. MCSO MASH Unit

    Discover how this former jail space took on a very different purpose, and the stories the building still carries.

Format
This is a completely outdoor walking tour with two hands-on ghost hunts. Paranormal equipment is provided.
Weather
This tour takes place entirely outdoors. Check the forecast, dress comfortably and bring water during warmer months.
Footwear
The route follows city sidewalks through the Warehouse District. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended.

Fully accessible throughout.
Restrooms
No restroom access during the tour. Plan accordingly.
Meeting point
Meet outside the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Headquarters at 550 W. Jackson Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003. Arrive 15 minutes early.
Cancellations
Weather decisions are generally made around 5 PM on tour day, based on current and expected conditions. If we cancel for weather, we offer rescheduling first; if you cannot reschedule, you can receive a refund. Regular cancellations require 24 hours' notice for a refund or credit. No-shows are charged the full price.
